The Veterans Council of Chatham County is erecting a World War II Monument, titled "A World Apart," in the Rousakis Riverfront Plaza overlooking the Savannah River to honor Chatham County's World War II veterans, both living and dead, and the contributions of the greater Chatham County community to the national war effort. The monument will include an engraved Georgia granite wall honoring those from Chatham County who died while serving during World War II.
The City of Savannah, Research Library & Municipal Archives assisted the Veterans Council in compiling a list of local World War II dead for public review and verification. All known dead are included in the attached list. Names marked with an asterisk (*) will be grandfathered in and automatically included in the memorial. Those marked with an "S" have spelling inconsistencies which need to be cleared through military personnel records or birth certificates. Those marked with a plus (+) require verification through military personnel records to determine if they are eligible for inclusion based on the approved criteria.
Individuals in possession of copies of military records or birth certificates for the individuals listed below are encouraged to supply a copy to the City Library & Archives for verification purposes.
For more information and to obtain your copy of the list please visit The City of Savannah's WWII Page or contact the Archivist at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or (912) 651-6411.
